Where have we been???
Ater returning to Nassau I had to attend the funeral of our Rotary Club of New Providence Michael Fowler. This was a very emotional day and one that brings home the point that life is fragile and the schedule we live on is not ours to choose. Our condolences go out to his family. We will miss you Michael!
The week back was an opportunity to reacquaint ourselves with our respective businesses and deal with the issues that have come up in our absence. Carla had a product representative in town for the make-up line from the Spas (Jane Iredale), so Carla was bust on the days with that and we entertained her (Debbie) in the evenings.
On Saturday I made a quick trip to Miami, if you can call travelling quick anymore. I met with Nathan Carmack of District 6910 to discuss some ideas on a Disaster relief Plan for our District and how we thought it might be structured and the steps necessary to move it forward.
I was joined then by Haiti Task Force Chair, Guy Theodore and we discussed the open items the Task force was dealing with and our plan for moving forward with the larger Country Wide Projects that involved TRF that were pending. After reviewing all of them we went on to the Projects Serving Haiti session hosted by District 6990 and held at the U of M Allens Hall.
This was a great event where approximately 27 groups presented what they did or planned to do in Haiti and put forward what they wanted to help them achieve their goals. We were able to clarify the standing criteria for Matching Grant projects in Haiti and to introduce the Haiti Task Force. This went well and should make some of our efforts going forward much easier as everybody understands what is happening.
Sunday was a quiet day at home watching a little NASCAR. What a treat!!!! Home for a short while doing nothing!

Then it was time to prepare for T.S. Noel. The Nassau Airport was closed on Tuesday and didn’t reopen until Friday. Meaning that our flight to Montego Bay Thursday was cancelled. We missed a joint club meeting, three board meetings and a service project. But, did arrive on Friday, only 26 hours late. Thank goodness the storm didn’t treat the Bahamas as badly as Haiti. We had one death and a lot of flooding in the Southern Bahamas, before Noel became a Hurricane. Unfortunately, Haiti didn’t make out as well with over 40 dead at last count and a lot of flooding. Our Daughter Meghenin the storm
Carla’s businesses were closed for two days because of water and storm warnings, however the On The Run was open and having a great day, offering all those who braved the water and wind hot food, cold beverages and gas.
Upon arriving in Montego Bay we attended the RLI Discussion Leader dinner, hosted by Haresh and his wife; a great time was had by all.
Saturday was the start of two fantastic days of RLI, three level 1, one level 2, one level 3 and a bunch of discussion leaders all having fun. We ended up Saturday with a fantastic Foundation Fundraising Dinner at the Montego Bay Yacht Club hosted by the Rotary Club of Montego Bay.
Sunday was the graduation of the level 3 RLI group and also 8 new Discussion Leaders. The weather held up for the boat cruise in the harbor. We stayed in and did the Blog and the reports and will pack and get ready to leave tomorrow for the rest of our Club visits. This is a picture of Clara from the Falmouth Club getting a pin after her club meeting. We met with the Montego Bay and Montego Bay East Clubs as well during the RLI before after and breaks to make up for the Board meeting times we missed due to the cancelled Thursday flight.
